Mt. Kisco Photo Exhibit on Faith Communities to Open This Week

This year marks 150 years since the incorporation of Mount Kisco as a village.
The year-long sesquicentennial celebrations start this month with “Faith Communities,” an exhibition of photographs of historic houses of worship, past and present faith communities and interfaith projects at the community’s public library. The exhibit opens next Wednesday, Jan. 15 and continues through February.
Some of the images date back to the 19th century, such as the 1893 photo of the Methodist-Episcopal Church, and one of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church built in 1761, at its first location at the center of the cemetery at today’s St. Marks Place.
“We have some wonderful vintage photographs on display, including one of the oldest Quaker Meeting House, and another of the groundbreaking for Bet Torah synagogue,” said John Rhodes, a trustee of the Mount Kisco Historical Society who worked on restoring some of the images.
On Sunday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. in the library, there will be a celebration of faith communities in Mount Kisco, including such milestones as the 200th year of the Methodist Ministry, the 175th anniversary of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and the 75th anniversary of Bet Torah. The event will feature presentations about the history and evolution of faith communities in the village.
All are invited and the exhibit is free of charge. It is open during library hours.
