Mt. Kisco Chamber Proposes Decorative Banner Program for Village
Mount Kisco officials expressed support last week for a chamber of commerce proposal to place decorative banners throughout Mount Kisco to promote the village.
Chamber of Commerce President Kevin Kane and Executive Director Caroline Loeb appeared before the village board on Aug. 12 to present examples of what the banners might look like.
Kane said he hoped the village would contribute a portion of the $12,400 start-up cost toward the program. The chamber is hoping the balance of the initiative would be paid for through contributions by local merchants, he said. Kane said the “lion’s share” of the costs would be from business owners.
The project’s first phase would see the chamber place about 80 banners in the village. The goal is to eventually have between 110 and 120 banners throughout Mount Kisco, Kane said.
Before choosing a slogan for the banner, the chamber should first receive comments from the village’s Beautification Committee, said Mayor Michael Cindrich, before adding that he supported the concept.
The banners displayed by Kane and Loeb at last week’s meeting contained the words “Eat, Shop, Love and Live it.” However, Kane stressed that there has been no decision made regarding what message would be used.
The village board agreed to schedule a work session to discuss the matter. The meeting would include members of the village’s Beautification Committee and other interested residents. A date for the work session was not set last week.
“Let’s get rolling on this,” Cindrich said.
Following last week’s meeting, Kane said the chamber devised the proposal about a year ago and has been discussing the topic with its members since then.
