Mayor’s Youth Council Seeking New Members
The City of White Plains Youth Bureau is now accepting applications for the Mayor’s Youth Council. The Youth Council is open to White Plains residents in grades 9 to 12. The Council is a group of youth leaders who meet on a bi-weekly basis to discuss issues and concerns of the youth in the City of White Plains. The Youth Council also meets with the Mayor on a quarterly basis to discuss their concerns and come up with solutions to these issues. Meetings are held on Monday evenings from 7 to 8 p.m. The Youth Council also performs community service projects throughout the year which have included, working with seniors, holiday food and toy drives, participation in various walks for causes such as Alzheimer’s Association, and Breast Cancer Awareness. The first meeting was held on Monday, Sept. 29, at the White Plains Youth Bureau, 11 Amherst Place, White Plains, in the Teen Lounge. Call 914-422-1378 for more information.
Seeking Nominations for White Plains 2014 Youth of the Year Award
The White Plains Youth Bureau is now accepting applications for its Annual Youth of the Year Award. The Award is given annually to a graduating high school senior, from either a public or private school. The award recognizes outstanding volunteer service, leadership and contributions to making a difference in the City of White Plains. The award recipient must be a City of White Plains resident. Service activities may include tutoring, helping the elderly, conducting food and clothing drives, fund raising for charitable programs, organizing community events, mentoring and coaching, etc. The deadline for nominations is Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014. Nomination forms may be obtained at the Youth Bureau, 11 Amherst Place, White Plains or call 914-422-1378.
