Matthew Paterson Students Send Cheerful, Healing Messages to Bus Driver
Matthew Paterson Elementary School students who wait for the bus at the corner of Sabrina Court and Mooney Hill Road in Holmes were saddened to hear that their former bus driver, Judy Carbone, was suffering from cancer. That was all it took for them to get together to do something to cheer her.
The idea came from two of the students, fourth graders Isabella Ciatto and Sarah Oster. They decided to make a “Get Well” poster. Ciatto also wrote a heartfelt note and sent along a stuffed bull dog.
“She remembered that I love bull dogs,” Carbone remarked.
The poster had inspirational sayings and notes of cheer, such as “Believe in yourself” and “You’re always in our hearts.”
The students also wrote “We will, we will, rock you!” because they remembered how all the children on Carbone’s bus would sing that song.
Sarah Oster drew a school bus and all the children at the bus stop signed the poster.
The note was from Isabella Ciatto, who also gave Carbone the stuffed dog.
“He will help keep you company when you are sad or lonely. Feel better!,” Ciatto wrote to Carbone about the stuffed dog.
“I was blown away with what these children did for me,” commented Carbone. “They really made my day!”
