Lopez Proposes Electric Car Charger for Pleasantville
Trustee Steve Lopez has a proposal that is quite electric.
At a recent work session, Lopez proposed that the village consider adding electric car chargers that would allow people to charge their electric cars while in Pleasantville.
Lopez said he got the idea after reading about how Yonkers received a grant to put the chargers in. Lopez did not know how much it would cost to put a charger in Pleasantville or how many parking spots would have to be sacrificed for a charger.
“I don’t know how popular they are or the experience of other communities,” Lopez said. “It’s an idea I have. I thought it’d be interesting to throw out there and think about it.”
Electric and hybrid vehicles have become popular in recent years as people look to go green and save money on petroleum costs. The reception from the village board was mixed.
“I don’t think the taxpayers should be concerned about an electric car charger,” Trustee Mindy Berard said. “Why create a service to something that no one even asked for? It’s a waste of time talking about this, there are bigger things on the agenda.
Lopez said he would like to run some local polls and consult with the Pleasantville Chamber of Commerce on whether this would be a viable idea.
