I’d like to congratulate Mike Lawler for his success in the FY2024 appropriations bills. Thanks to his tireless efforts, the 17th Congressional District will be receiving almost $36 million in federal funding for crucial projects across his district, including here in my hometown of Mount Pleasant.
Mount Pleasant’s first responder telecommunications system fields 35,000 calls a year and plays a critical role in our officers’ mission to protect our community. The tools our law enforcement officers rely upon have become obsolete and are in dire need of upgrading to accommodate a growing need for their services. Calls for mutual aid, more frequent environmental emergencies and state-mandated police reform are overwhelming the current dispatch and record management systems.
Thankfully, Lawler has delivered more than $800,000 to the Town of Mount Pleasant to modernize our dispatch and records system, replace aging radio communications equipment and make our systems compatible with Westchester County’s fire control and police forces. This will save the town hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars.
Congressman Lawler’s record as a principled problem-solver has secured the overwhelming bipartisan support necessary to bring these projects to fruition. The nearly $36 million Congressman Lawler delivered in appropriations in just his first year in office dwarfs what his predecessor, Mondaire Jones, accomplished in the same time frame.
These projects are popular because they’re what good governance is all about –investment in infrastructure, ensuring safe communities and safeguarding public resources. I commend Congressman Lawler for his success and encourage him to continue delivering for our district.
Thank you,
Steven J. Willard
