It has been almost 20 years since I had the privilege to serve the Town of Carmel and the County of Putnam. My wife, Terry, and I still maintain a year-round residence in Mahopac and have been able to observe with admiration and respect the work of Mike Lawler in the 17th Congressional District, which represents many of the same towns and villages that I similarly served.

Mike has made an effort to work across the aisle in Congress that is rarely seen on the national level in our very divided country. Mike has protected Social Security and Medicare benefits that the current administration is using to address the influx of illegal immigrants. He has worked diligently to improve our veterans and the programs necessary for their continued health and welfare.

Mike has also been a leader in responding to the need to return to a policy of energy independence, which will bring down the burdensome costs for our residents for gas, groceries, electricity and rent, particularly for our seniors and middle-class families.

Mike shares our values of hard work and the need to give our families the opportunity to receive the reward of good pay, low taxes and the ability to afford their home and allow their children to succeed and fulfill their own dreams.

My hope is that you will take the time to vote for Mike now through Nov. 3 during early voting or on Election Day, Nov. 5
