Knicks D-League Team Finds a Home at the Westchester County Center
On Thursday, March 6, the Westchester County Board of Legislators voted to approve a formal licensing agreement with the Madison Square Garden Company, which brought the NY Knicks-affiliated NBA Developmental team to the Westchester County Center.
“This has all the makings of a tremendously successful and fun franchise. This community loves basketball, this is going to be an operation this community can be proud of,” said Dave Howard the President of MSG Sports in response to the approval by the BOL.
On Monday, Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino and Deputy County Executive Kevin Plunkett gathered with Dan Reed President, NBA Development League, former Knick Allan Houston, Assistant General Manager of the Knicks, who will preside as General Manager of the Knicks Development League Team, BOL Chairman Michael Kaplowitz, White Plains Mayor Tom Roach, former Knick John Starks, Bill Boyce, MSG VP of Business and Sales Operations for the new Development team and Kathleen O’Connor, the Commissioner of Westchester Parks, to officially announce that the home of the NY Knicks new Development Team will be the Westchester County Center, in White Plains.
“It is a great day and it is a day that Westchester can be proud of to have professional basketball here at the Westchester County Center,” declared Astorino.
“We are very excited to bring a D-League team to Westchester County, “stated the new Knicks D-League GM Houston. “We are also very interested in solidifying our relationship with the community of Westchester. We intend to be very active in the community with community service and jobs,” announced Houston.
City of White Plains Mayor Roach said. “We are always very proud to have the County Center in White Plains and especially today, while bringing this quality level of professional basketball to our city.”
The Knicks D-League games will commence at the Westchester County Center in November 2014. The 24-game season will run through April, with the potential of playoff games also being played in April.
Season tickets are on sale at this time and fans can log onto NYKnicksDLeague.com or call 212-465-6073 to leave a $100 non-refundable deposit per seat to secure your seats for the upcoming season. Season tickets and Individual game tickets will start at $12.00 per game.
General Manager Houston also revealed an interesting aspect of the new Knicks D-League Team, which is that the fans will select the new name of the team. From now until March 24, fans can log onto NYKnicksDLeague.com to submit their suggestions and then vote for the name of the new Knicks D-League team at the Westchester County Center.
