Kids X-Press Celebrates 10th Anniversary
Kids X-Press, a White Plains based children’s literacy organization which publishes a quarterly magazine, will celebrate its 10th Anniversary next week.
The publication was launched by White Plains resident Nivia Viera in 2001.
“I saw that kids really had an interest in writing, more than we give them credit for, and it really inspired in me the thought that, gee, if we let them write and we let them illustrate and not burden them with over-editing, that they will tell a story,” Viera recalled. “They get inspired to say more. They get inspired to write more.”
The free magazines are available at libraries, community centers, stores and schools. Though most of the magazines are distributed in Westchester and the metropolitan area, they can also be found in Chicago, Philadelphia, New Orleans and other cities across the country.
On Nov. 10, Kids X-Press will be having a reception at Westchester Hills Country Club to celebrate the publication entering its second decade. For more information on this event or on Kids X-Press, visit www.kidsxpress.net.
