Katonah Art Center to Host Annual Faculty Show This Month
The Katonah Art Center is hosting its third annual faculty show with a reception on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Garden Room of the Katonah Village Library. The show will run through the end of January.
The faculty show was incredibly successful last year, and this year promises to be even bigger.
“Our instructors, in addition to being great teachers, are talented and acclaimed artists,” explained Loren Anderson, director of the Katonah Art Center. “It’s always so exciting to see them present their own work. I love this chance to share our artists with the public. Most artwork will be for sale, so this is a chance to own some incredible pieces.”
One such artist is Jock MacRae. With constantly packed classes, MacRae has been a beloved teacher at the Katonah Art Center since it opened, even teaching Anderson. Not only a favorite instructor, MacRae is also well respected in the art world. He received the New York State Council on the Arts grant for a series of wetland paintings. His work is housed in many corporate collections, including Sony, GE and AT&T.
“I love working for the KAC. I’ve known Loren since she was 15. She was great then, and she’s great now,” MacRae said. “The work I’m showing is about light, about capturing this one particular type of light that only exists for a few moments every day.”
The show will also feature the work of Rae Smith, president of the Pastel Society of America; well-known portrait artist Wende Caporale, who was featured in American Artists Magazine; Tracy Burtz, whose work “Art to the Point”was recently displayed at the Katonah Museum of Art; and Cindy Sacks who received the Best Water Color at WATERWORKS at Iona College.
