Joseph Marcella, 81, of Pleasantville, passed away on Friday, June 16 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Joseph was born in the small village of Palermiti, Italy to Domenico and Caterina Marcella, along with his other siblings, Mary, Josephine, Edward and Richard.
When Joseph was just 14 years old, he and his father immigrated to the United States and settled immediately into Pleasantville. Joseph worked tirelessly in the garment industry to provide for his family, purchasing his home at 26 years old and sending his three children to parochial school.
Joseph will always be remembered for his warm smile, soft eyes, enormous heart, positive disposition, and above all, love for his family. Joseph was admired by everyone who knew him as he would often put the needs of others before his own.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Vanda; his siblings; his three children, Vilma, Josephine and Dominick; two sons-in-law, Domenico and Erwin; his daughter-in-law, Rosemarie; his five grandchildren, Steven, Gianna, Dante, Sofia and Alexia; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joseph was a true role model to us all. He will forever be loved and truly missed. May he rest in eternal peace.
Visitation was held on June 22 at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home in Pleasantville. A funeral service was held on June 23 at Holy Innocents Church in Pleasantville followed by entombment at Ferncliff Mausoleum.
