Democracy and basic human rights are on the line in the 2024 election. That’s no hyperbole, which is why I unequivocally support sending former congressman Mondaire Jones back to Washington to represent our district.

Our current representative, Republican Mike Lawler, though he paints himself as a moderate, does not support a woman’s right to reproductive freedom. When voting, he aligns himself with most parts of the MAGA movement, a group that thinks it is OK to obstruct the normal procession of vote counting. Lawler’s simplistic negative views on immigration insults this child of Holocaust survivors, whose parents had to pull many strings to get into the U.S. after their years of trauma.

The issues that need to be addressed are complex; solutions can’t be dog whistles to calm the fearful. Mondaire Jones has worked to find solutions to combat the climate crisis. For our future, there is no more urgent issue. His approach differs from Rep. Lawler on these and many other problems that face our world and country.

I fear that if the branches of government turn red, we will all have blood on our hands. Mondaire has my vote to save the world and this fine country.
