Joint Police Probe Nabs Five in Peekskill for Heroin
A joint investigation by the Peekskill Police, Westchester County Department of Public Safety and federal Department of Homeland Security resulted in the arrest of five Peekskill men last week for allegedly possessing a large quantity of heroin.
More than eight ounces of heroin were confiscated by police last Wednesday afternoon at an undisclosed location.
Ruben Contreras, 39, and Elias Dias-Vargas, 39, were charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminal facilitation, both felonies. Nestor Figueira, 41, Urias Portilla-Espinoza, 22, and Freddy Garcia, 27, were charged with second-degree criminal facilitation, also a felony.
Last month, a similar probe that took five months resulted in three arrests after police received several complaints about suspicious activity from residents on Smith Street. Police determined sales of narcotics, including heroin and crack cocaine, were taking place at the home, in adjacent neighborhoods and in the Town of Cortlandt.
