John J. Broderick, 89, of Thornwood, a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Oct. 19.

He was born Nov. 27, 1934, in Yonkers to George and Margaret (Sullivan) Broderick. He graduated from Iona University and earned two masters’ degrees.

Prior to finishing his education, John served his country in Korea with courage and honor. He taught in the Yonkers school system for 30 years, and went on to substitute teach at a local high school where he was adored by staff and students.

“Jack” will be most remembered for his never-ending kindness and honesty, his love and loyalty to his family and his joy when watching Yankees’ baseball.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Kathleen, his parents, his older sister, Margaret Mary Maxwell, and his brother, George Broderick.

He is survived by his sons, John A. Broderick of Florida and Paul Broderick of Valhalla; his daughter, Linda (Broderick) Burns, of Connecticut; his granddaughter, Kathleen Broderick, of Connecticut; and his great-granddaughter, Emma Rose Burns, of Connecticut. He has 13 nieces and nephews. We are forever grateful to his loving caretaker and companion, K. We will love and miss him forever.

A Catholic Mass to celebrate Jack’s life was held in the little chapel at St. John and St. Mary’s Church on Oct. 28.
