Irene Knocks Out Power to Most of Mount Kisco
Irene has packed a punch in Mount Kisco, causing 60 percent of homes and businesses to lose power.
Mount Kisco Mayor Michael Cindrich said early Sunday evening he was upset that Con Edison has not done more to restore power to the utility’s roughly 3,300 customers in the village still without power. Cindrich said he was “extremely frustrated” that Con Edison had not restored power.
The village has set up an emergency shelter at the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester on Main Street, utilizing a back up electrical generator. But the individuals being housed at the shelter may have to be moved elsewhere if full power is not restored, Cindrich said. The Red Cross has some issues with some of the lighting,” and other matters related to the electricity in the building, Cindrich said.
Village Manager James Palmer has called Con Edison about when power would be restored and Palmer has only been told “We’re working on it,” Cindrich said, adding he has contacted the office of Gov. Andrew Cuomo to express his frustration with Con Edison.
Cindrich said he did not know the sources of the power outages, but there were several downed trees on Route 172 in Bedford.
There has been significant flooding in Mount Kisco., Cindrich said. “The issue in the downtown is the flooding,” he said. The flooding will result in “a significant amount of financial loss” to the businesses, Cindrich said. Much of flooding has occurred in area of South Moser Avenue and Shoppers’ Park, he said.
There will be overtime the village will need to pay for police personnel and department of public works employees, but he did yet have an estimate of how much the overtime will cost, Cindrich said.
