Hundreds Attend Fundraiser for Wounded Marine
The local community came out in full force Saturday night for a fundraiser held for Lance Cpl. John G. Curtin, a Marine critically injured by an improvised explosive devise last month in Afghanistan.
Hundreds of people, many from Putnam and Dutchess counties, were at VFW Post 9257 in Putnam Lake, including several of Curtin’s friends and members of his extended family. Curtin grew up in Wingdale and graduated from Dover High School, and his parents are originally from Putnam.
Curtin, 21, lost part of his legs and is currently at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. recovering. On Feb. 23, Curtin was awarded the Purple Heart by President Obama.
The Brewster VFW, located at 262 Peaceable Hill Road, will host a breakfast fundraiser on April 10 at 9 a.m. For more information about Curtin, his recovery and future events visit www.marinejohngcurtin.com.
