Homestyles Desserts Owner Plays Role in TV Pilot
When a longtime customer took an interest in her for a television pilot he was producing, Homestyles Desserts owner Rose Sanca was a little nervous since she never acted before.
However, when Sanca learned she would simply have to play herself alongside Vincent Pastore, best known for his role as Big Pussy on the HBO smash “The Sopranos,” she decided to make her debut on the small screen.
“It’s been fun. I just tell myself I can do this,” Sanca said. “I’m kind of transitioning. I had to do my scene 10 times but I finally got it. I kind of get to ad lib my lines since I’m playing myself.”
The show is called “Slice!” and centers on the everyday operations of a pizza parlor. Many scenes have been filmed at Maria’s Pizza in Yorktown, but when the reality show-type program called for Italian desserts, like cannolis, the crew headed to Homestyles in Peekskill.
“I love people and I love my customers, and he’s (Pastore) a customer coming in,” Sanca explained, noting filming took place in January.
Future scenes at Homestyles are planned for “Slice!”, which is still awaiting to be picked up by a network. Sanca said Pastore, who lives in Mount Vernon, was a true gentleman and has become a friend.
“He’s a funny guy. I made his birthday cake,” said Sanca, who has made many cakes and other delicacies for various events held by the New York Yankees. She also recently unveiled a new Sweet Pizza, called a “Sweetzas,” that resembles a Sicilian square pizza but is a cheesecake with raspberry and marshmallow.
