Hayworth Applauds Ruling Against Health Care Reform Law
Rep. Nan Hayworth (R-NY) praised the ruling by U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson saying that President Obama’s health care reform law is unconstitutional. Vinson took issue with the law mandating individuals to purchase health insurance.
“I agree wholeheartedly with Judge Vinson that this law exceeds the power granted to the federal government,” Hayworth said in a press release Monday. “Although the lawsuit will likely proceed to the Supreme Court, today’s ruling is a win for all Americans who now suffer due to an invasive and domineering federal government.”
The White House called the ruling “judicial overreaching” and said it was outside of mainstream judicial opinion.
“We don’t believe this kind of judicial activism will be upheld and we are confident that the Affordable Care Act will ultimately be declared constitutional by the courts,” Stephanie Cutter, an assistant to Obama and deputy senior advisor, said in The White House Blog. “In the end, we’re confident our arguments will carry the day and the health reform law will continue to make the health care system stronger for all of us.”
Hayworth, a retired ophthalmologist, was elected last year in New York’s 19th Congressional District, beating incumbent Democrat John Hall.
