The Harrison High girls soccer team had a solid game last Thursday at Greeley, but gave up a second-half goal that ended up costing them the game in a 3-2 loss to the Quakers.

Harrison tied the game at 2-2 just 10 minutes into the second half, with Maya Simad converting a pass from Erica LaManna.

But the Quakers got the game-winner 15 minutes into the second half.

Erin Nelson scored Harrison’s first goal 20 minutes into the game, assisted by Gina DiRusso.

Huskies keeper Cailyn Burgos stopped 13 shots on goal.

“We had opportunities to tie it up,” Huskies coach Jon Erik Zappala said. “But they capitalized on their opportunities. Cailyn Burgos in goal played well for us, but we did have some miscommunication on defense. Overall we did play well as a team, and we did well controlling the midfield.

“Cat Ensign on defense played an exceptional game for us,” Zappala added. “And Erica LaManna had a very good game. Samad is still gaining confidence on breakaways, but she played well.”

Harrison was set to face Pearl River at home Wednesday at 4:30, travel to TZ Saturday at 10 a.m., and the Huskies are at Pleasantville next Monday for a 4:30 game.

“Right now we’re trying to focus on one game at a time,” Zappala said. “The team is looking forward to sectionals… our record doesn’t reflect how we have been playing, so they’re looking forward to showing people what we’re about.”

Playoffs open with first-round action Saturday October 25.
