Harckham’s Advocacy for the Environment is Why He Must Be Re-elected

Almost every month, there is a new scientific study about the health risks posed by plastics. Small fragments of plastic, known as microplastics, enter our body by breathing or swallowing. Microplastics are in the indoor air we breathe and especially in single-use plastic water bottles.

There are small steps we can take as consumers, but what we really need are new state policies that significantly reduce the production and use of plastics and the 16,000 toxic chemicals found in plastics.

Thankfully, state Sen. Peter Harckham has not only sponsored but has also passed a bill in the state Senate to do just that. I had the pleasure of working with Sen. Harckham on this bill and got to see him in action.

I have been doing environmental advocacy a long time. I have never seen a more engaged, more hard working and more well-informed state senator than Sen. Harckham. He does his homework and does the hard work to turn good ideas into new laws.

Sen. Harckham successfully passed this bill in the Senate but we need him to be re-elected to see this bill through the Assembly and over the finish line.

This is just one of many environmental issues that he is championing. Lots of elected officials latch on to environmental issues around election time because they know voters support clean air and clean water. Sen. Harckham is with us year-round and working 24/7 to leave our planet cleaner for our children and our grandchildren. He is exactly who we need in public service.
