Funds Available to White Plains Homeowners for Vital Improvements

We are part of The Trust Project

The City of White Plains Community Development Program has funds available to assist qualified White Plains homeowners of one to four family homes in making vital repairs to their properties. Limited slots are available and time is limited on this opportunity.

The goal of the Community Development Program is to correct, repair, or replace essential, vital, and critical structural problems like worn roofs, chimneys, windows, boilers, sewer /water lines and provide needed electrical upgrades.

Funding, which has been provided by the New York State Affordable Homes Corporation, is available for up to $40,000 per qualified homeowner. The funding comes to homeowners in the form of a loan secured by a conditional two, five or ten year mortgage which is partially or wholly forgivable depending on length of continuous residency by the owner after completion of the work.  All funding is subject to income restrictions.

Once approved under the program, city staff will prepare detailed specifications of work to be performed and request bids from pre-qualified, licensed and insured contractors. The homeowner selects the contractor and city staff inspects the work. Top priority is given to repairs that eliminate health or safety hazards such as heating, plumbing or electrical work. The next priority is given to vital, preventative maintenance projects such as roofing, window replacement, carpentry, masonry, sewer and water lines, etc.
