Florence Ogostalick Holliday, 98, of Mount Kisco died Mar. 2 at Northern Westchester Hospital.
Florence was born on July 16, 1924, in Summit Hill, Pa. After her father, a Polish immigrant, died in a coal mine explosion, the family moved to Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Florence graduated from Girl’s High and Bellevue Nursing School. While working at Bellevue, she met her husband, Dr. Robert Holliday,
who would later be credited with performing the first open-heart surgery in Westchester County.
While working as a busy housewife, Florence found time to graduate with a B.A. from Hunter College and a Master of Public Administration from Pace University. She would later work for the New York State Department of Health in New Rochelle.
Florence enjoyed sailing and was a member of the Larchmont Yacht Club and Shattemuc Yacht Club. She was a longtime patron of the New York City Ballet, watching performances well into her 90s.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, and daughter Dr. Ellen Holliday Azzaretti. She is survived by her sons, Robert Jr. and Joseph; grandsons Lawrence and Gregory Azzaretti; and great-grandchildren Charles and Emery. Florence is the sister of Mary, 96, and Dorothy, 94, of Douglaston, N.Y. and brother Edward, 86, of Palos Verdes, Calif. She is also survived by several nieces and a nephew.
Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah is carrying out the wishes of the family. A service and celebration of Florence’s life will be announced later this year.
