Nancy’s Picks: This week’s three best bets
1. Newburgh Literary Festival
Regional readers and writers unite at this Hudson Valley festival that features poets, fiction writers, and memoirists. The two-day event (daily tickets available) includes writer conversations, an interview with Joe Donahue from WAMC Northeast Public Radio, workshops, awards, food, and the Local Writer’s Fair & Cocktail Reception. The festival isn’t just a good way to spend a day, but it feels good, too, as it is a fundraiser for Safe Harbors of the Hudson and affords attendees the opportunity to explore the history and tapestry of the re-emergent Newburgh on the Hudson.

From 6-7:30 pm on Friday night, October 29th, the Bridge is hosting a reservation-only seasonal night walk. The East Entrance will be open for check-in (Poughkeepsie side), costumes are encouraged, dogs are welcome (check website for restrictions), and enjoy the stars, moon, cityscape, and shoreline from 212 feet above the Hudson River. Children will receive a treat upon exit.

3. Bethel Woods Peace, Love, & Pumpkins
There is something for everyone at the Bethel Woods Peace, Love, & Pumpkins and Night Market event. The seasonal walk-through experience along the garden trails adorned with carved jack o’lanterns and art is just the beginning. It is followed by the Night Market featuring live music, food, fire dancers, regional craft vendors, and local food, wine, and spirits. Very important information; on October 25th the walk-through event is hosting Sensory-Friendly Monday, where individuals on the autism spectrum can attend prior to the general public from 4-6:30 pm.
