Eleanor, known for her kind heart and unwavering love for her family, passed away on Oct. 5. She was 87.

She was with her friends at the malt shop in Waltham, Mass. where she met her future husband, John (Dan) Johnson. They married and moved to Hawthorne to start their life together.

Eleanor was beautiful both inside and out. She was known to childhood friends for her ham and cheese and pickle sandwiches that she would give to us on hot summer days after playing in the pool.

She had a giving nature and always put others ahead of herself. Her sixth sense for fulfilling her family’s needs were uncanny. When you visited her, she gave you a little care package that was filled with things you didn’t even know you needed, and a few others that would make you smile. Eleanor was so much more.

She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, John (Dan) Johnson, children Dan Johnson, Laura Johnson and Teresa Carroll and grandsons Matthew and Connor Carroll.

Visitation was held at Ballard-Durand of Hawthorne on Oct. 10. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Oct. 11 at Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
