Demolition to Begin Next Week on Lyon Place Garage
The work to begin tearing down the parking structure at Lyon Place, White Plains, will begin next week. Demolition is expected to last 10 weeks. Construction of a new state of the art parking structure will immediately follow. The new garage is expected to be operational by early 2014 and will provide 619 parking spaces, with 459 spaces available to the public to support the workforce, shoppers, diners, etc.
In March the city acquired the garage, which had fallen into disrepair and was closed, at no cost from the Esplanade Assisted Care Facility in exchange for a 99 year occupancy agreement pursuant to which the Esplanade will have use of 160 parking spaces and pay a pro rata share of operating costs.
During demolition and construction drivers, pedestrians and cyclists can expect to see some changes to traffic patterns in the area. Waller Avenue is currently closed between East Post Road and Lyon Place. Waller Avenue will be re-opened in both directions after demolition. Lyon Place will also be closed during the demolition (except for local access). Lyon Place will likely remain closed during the bulk of the construction. Additional street closures may be required as construction commences, although these are expected to be short-lived.
