In a showing of support for the city’s leadership, the Democratic Party swept Tuesday’s elections in White Plains and maintained their 7-0 stronghold on the Common Council.

At a little before 11 p.m., the GOP candidates conceded at Bob Hyland’s Sports Page Pub.

“It didn’t turn out as well as we predicted or would have liked,” Republican candidate Terrence Guerriere said.

Council President Ben Boykin, Councilwoman Milagros Lecuona and Democratic candidate Dennis Krolian prevailed over their three Republican challengers – Terence Guerriere, Mike Donnelly and Rich Cirulli – by a comfortable margin.

“The people of the City of White Plains have won,” Boykin said. “I look forward to working with everyone for the future of the city.”

Meanwhile, Democratic Councilman John Martin topped Republican Jim Arndt for the remainder of the term in the seat vacated by Tom Roach, who left the council when he became mayor.

While Republicans hammered their Democratic opponents over property taxes and parking, the Democratic message of experience and continuing in the same direction resonated with voters.

“As long as we retain the same members on the city council that have been doing a super job,” said White Plains voter Goldie Gould after casting her ballot.

In the race for District 5 in the Westchester County Board of Legislators, Democratic incumbent Bill Ryan beat Republican Iris Pagan for an eighth two-year term.
