Cortlandt Approves Bonding for Water District Improvements
The Cortlandt Town Board approved two separate bond resolutions last week for infrastructure improvements in the Cortlandt Consolidated Water District and Montrose Improvement District.
The larger bond, up to $4 million, will fund upgrades for three water main projects in the area of Croton Avenue and Route 202.
The second bond, totaling $1.2 million, will cover Cortlandt’s share of replacing an existing three million gallon water storage tank with a four million gallon tank. The towns of Yorktown and Somers and the Montrose Improvement District will also contribute to the cost of the new tank.
“Water is a number one priority for all of us in our community and our town government,” Cortlandt Supervisor Linda Puglisi said.
The water district serves 70 percent of the town and the water flows from the New York City Aqueduct.
Town officials noted Cortlandt only has $6 million in debt after just finishing paying off a $4 million bond from 20 years ago for water projects.
