City of Peekskill Extends Hours for Cooling Center
A cooling center will once again be available today (1 p.m. to 9 p.m.) and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Peekskill Neighborhood Center at 4 Nelson Avenue for residents looking to take a break from the extreme heat.
At 2:15 p.m. this afternoon, the Weather Channel reported temperatures of 103-F degrees in Peekskill with a “Real Feel” temperature of 116. Forecasted Thunderstorms Saturday afternoon are expected to usher in cooler temperatures Saturday night and Sunday.
“With more seasonable temperatures coming, we don’t anticipate the need to have the cooling center open Sunday. But, if the temperature creeps up, it will be reopened right away,” said Peekskill Mayor Mary Foster.
There are cool things to do.
“I want to encourage everyone to cool off by visiting the public pool or one of our spray parks, or to catch a show tonight at the Paramount Theater. You can also visit one of our many air conditioned businesses and restaurants throughout the city,” Foster said.
