Chappaqua Names New School Superintendent
The Chappaqua School District announced Tuesday night that Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Lyn McKay will be its new chief administrator effective July 1.
McKay, who has held her current position since arriving in Chappaqua in 2003, was selected by the board of education after the district conducted a national search. McKay said she looks forward to the opportunity to continue to phase in innovations that would take the district to the next level.
“I’m very excited to be superintendent and to learn, to listen and to serve the community,” said McKay, a Yorktown resident since moving to Westchester from Florida eight years ago.
The board approved a three-year contract with an option for two additional years at a salary of $240,000. McKay will also receive a $500 monthly car allowance.
“We have a leader who understands the difficult issues and many challenges that lie ahead,” said Board of Education President Janet Benton. “Dr. McKay brings to this job a passion for the future and a commitment to providing a rich, exciting and meaningful educational experience for all of our students. ”
Benton also said that McKay has the skills and experience to handle the fiscal and operation challenges the district faces.
McKay will take over for interim Superintendent John Chambers. The vacancy was created last year when former schools chief Dr. David Fleishman left to take a job in his native Massachusetts.
