Catalina Call for Independent Audit of Peekskill’s Finances
Peekskill Mayor Frank Catalina hit the ground running by calling for an independent audit of the city’s finances just minutes after being sworn in before a throng of well-wishers at City Hall.
During his campaign, Catalina was highly critical of the financial management of Peekskill under Mayor Mary Foster and vowed to eliminate all unnecessary spending on outside consultants and public relations firms.
“If I’m wrong about the city’s finances I will be the first person to come to this podium and apologize,” Catalina said during his New Year’s Day speech.
In addition, Catalina called for a public referendum on the controversial central firehouse project be held in May and the establishment of a Peekskill Diamond Commission to begin planning for the city’s 75th anniversary in 2015.
“I love this city. I intend to serve every citizen of this city to the best of my ability,” he said.
