Casting Aspersions on Former Yorktown Chamber Leadership Was Off-Base

I was reading your newspaper and came across a guest column on page 11 in last week’s issue about the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce (“Yorktown Chamber of Commerce: A Story of Transformation and Growth”). I am glad that they decided to merge. If they believe that’s what’s necessary to survive then that’s okay with me.
I was disappointed when they decided to badmouth the old leadership. In my opinion, the last president, Sergio Esposito, did a much better job helping local businesses, promoting them and speaking up for them than anyone I have ever seen, and to be honest, I really have not been happy with the chamber in the last three years and have not participated much or at all. The Yorktown street fair, for example, was successful every year, but I have had zero interest participating since they moved it to the Jefferson Valley Mall.
Sergio was hands down the best chamber president I have ever seen. The guy genuinely cares about our town. He was all over the place and on social media during COVID. This didn’t need to get political, which is what they are doing, and for what gain? How does that help anyone?
If the Yorktown Chamber wants to merge with the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber, they should. I think they need to.
