Carter-Costello, Freach Prevail in Cortlandt Democratic Primary
Registered Democrats in Cortlandt voted lockstep with committee leaders Tuesday night by supporting Debbie Carter-Costello and Seth Freach for town board.
With 36 out of 37 districts reporting to the Westchester County Board of Elections, unofficial results showed Carter-Costello, daughter of former Councilman and funeral home owner Edward Carter, as the top vote-getter with 969, followed by Freach with 819.
Domenic Volpe, a local dry cleaner, received 745 votes and running mate Brian Pugh pulled in 695 votes.
In the Independence Party primary, Volpe secured a spot on the line with 75 votes, coming in second to Buchanan Trustee and Republican candidate Theresa Knickerbocker, who received 82 votes. Republican John Lentini was third with 60 votes and Pugh was fourth with 51 votes.
Volpe and Pugh will be appearing on the November 4 ballot on the Working Families line. All six candidates will be vying to fill the seats of longtime Democratic Town Board members John Sloan and Ann Lindau-Martin, both of whom opted not to seek another four-year term.
Meanwhile, veteran Republican Cortlandt Town Justice Gerald Klein and Democrat Shari Gordon squared off in Independence and Working Families primaries, and it appears Gordon secured both lines. Unofficial results had Gordon ahead of Klein 67 to 64 in the Independence primary and 12 to 4 in the Working Families primary. Klein will also appear on the Conservative line.
