Business Profile: The Parting Glass Irish Pub & Grill, Mahopac
Damien Nolan, co-owner of The Parting Glass Pub & Grill, which opened in Mahopac earlier this month, has brought his nearly three decades’ worth of experience working in the restaurant industry to his new business.
“I’ve worked in something like 30 high end places in the city,” Nolan said on Monday.
Nolan was born and raised in Ireland and moved to the United States in 1999. Nolan, who resides in Astoria, Queens, used to manage the restaurant that was formerly located in his Route 6 building. “The place was doing very, very well, I knew its capabilities,” he recalled. “The area has just become so big for food and it was crying out for a good Irish bar.”
Nolan stressed that pairings of food and craft beers and other alcoholic beverages is one of the trademarks of his new restaurant. Aside from craft and draft beers, a wide variety of wines, bourbons and scotches are available. Entertainment is also provided on a regular basis, including performances by the house band, The Sands of Time.
Nolan said the name of his new establishment is based on the song of the same name which is “one of the oldest traditional songs in history.”
Aside from his new restaurant in Mahopac, Nolan and his business partner Maurice Parker Jr., also own a bar located on the Lower East Side section of Manhattan. “This time I wanted to concentrate a little bit more on food,” Nolan said. “Our signature item, by far, is our Shepard’s Pie. Over 16 days, we sold 1,368.”
The restaurant offers a variety of specials including weekend brunch, Sunday night meat carving boards and lobster nights on Mondays.
Nolan said he wants to have his eatery part of several local charitable events, including its participation in the effort to fight childhood cancer with an event on April 4 at 5 p.m
“I look forward to growing with the community,” Nolan said. The Parting Glass Irish Pub & Grill is located at 925 Route 6 in Mahopac. For more information, call 845-628-2474. The establishment also has a Facebook page. The restaurant is open daily.
