Business Profile: Pure Salon, Yorktown

Somers resident Daniela Chiazzese said last week she is living her dream.
Chiazzese, who has been working in the hair salon industry since she was 15 (sweeping and washing hair), has owned Pure Salon in Yorktown for the past three-and-a-half years.
“My dream was always to open up my own business,” she said..
She said she was inspired by her mother, Somers resident Fran Piccolo, who was a hair dresser. Her mother was excited when she was told about her intention to open Pure Salon, Chiazzese recalled. “I always watched her doing hair,” Chiazzese said.
Chiazzese, who styles hair at her establishment, said she is gratified when she makes her customers happy and “see a smile on their face.”
“That’s my dream – just to make everybody look beautiful, feel beautiful inside and out and we do that in here. We’re like therapists,” Chiazzese said.
Chiazzese said she and her employees enjoy speaking with the customers, who will discuss their problems.
Pure Salon provides services for men, women, boys and girls. Aside from hair care, the business also provides waxing, to remove facial hair, and makeup services.
Chiazzese, who received training at the Putnam-Northern Westchester BOCES in Yorktown, said one of Pure Salon’s specialties are “updo” hair styling for formal occasions such as weddings and proms. The Thanksgiving, Christmas and prom seasons are the busiest times of the year for Pure Salon, Chiazzese said.
She said she is satisfied with the Saw Mill River Road location for her business. “Honestly, I think we have one of the best spots in Yorktown,” she said.
Chiazzese said she had straightforward goals for her business. “I just take it one day at a time. Honestly, I just go with the flow. I just want a successful business and make my workers happy,” she said. “My goal is to own by own salon for the next 10 to 15 years. I’d be happy if we stayed the same because I’d still be in business (because) obviously, we’re doing the right thing. My main goal is to make the customers happy.”
