Business Profile: Mirinet Communications, Somers
The Mancini family is well known in Somers for their success in the real estate field.
One member of the family, Ricky Mancini, is trying to make a name for himself, but in a different business.
Mancini has owned and operated Mirinet Communications in the Somers Commons Shopping Center since July 2010.
“We offer the latest in cutting edge technology when it comes to cell phones,” Mancini explained last week. “We offer very competitive rate plans. We’re a full service location. We do everything right here. We also offer all the latest in the iPhones and iPad devices.”
Mancini said there have been many advances in communication devices in recent years, including the iPhones.
“You don’t really need a laptop computer anymore. Everything can be done through the phone,” he said “Even Facebook was saying more than half of their hits now are from mobile devices. So, it’s pretty incredible. You have less and less people using home computers now. Really, everybody’s going the mobile route.”
Though he is not working in the real estate field, Mancini is continuing in his family’s tradition of owning their own businesses operated in town. “I grew up in Somers. My family’s always had small businesses in the Town of Somers,” he said. “I decided I wanted to stay in Somers. This is where I chose. It’s a great location.”
His family name has helped his business, Mancini said. “I’ve brought in a lot of new customers,” he said. “My family has a great reputation in town.”
Mancini, who lives eight minutes from his store, said, “I also have a very large family so I converted most of them over to Sprint.”
He changed careers to become owner of his own business. He has a background in restaurant management. “I decided I no longer wanted to be in the restaurant industry. I always had a love of technology and decided I wanted to move forward in this field,” he said.
Mancini said his store is an authorized retailer for Sprint products, but is not part of a chain. He owns a Samson Galaxy S4 phone which has a screen that operates when you “hover your finger above the touch screen,” he said. “You can wave your hand in front of the phone to pick up a call. It’s pretty incredible.”
Mancini and his workers enjoy looking forward to future innovations in the phones. “The employees that I have, as well as myself, we’re always seeing what’s going to be next,” Mancini said.
Mancini, who has four employees and is open every day, has a simple goal for his establishment, and that is “to grow, like every small business.”
Mirinet Communications is located at 80 Route 6, Suite 202, in the Somers Commons Shopping Center in the Baldwin Place section of town. For more information, call (914) 519-6072.
