Business of the Week: Putnam Orthodontics
Dr. Satish Pai opened the doors to Putnam Orthodontics located in the barn building on Stoneleigh Avenue in Carmel across from the Putnam Hospital Center on June 1 and held a grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 16 to officially welcome members of the community and the Greater Mahopac-Carmel Chamber of Commerce to view his new facility.
The smiles on everyone’s faces were symbolic of the reason why Dr. Pai decided to go into orthodontic dentistry.
He said if people are self conscious about crooked teeth, they may not smile as freely – an action that helps to build relationships and connect people to one another.
“Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing,” Dr. Pai said.
Having a desire to help increase patients’ self esteem paired with having earlier worked in pediatric dentistry is the reason why Dr. Pai said he was drawn to orthodontic dentistry.
In building his vision for the perfect practice, Dr. Pai said that he visited many orthodontic offices to gain insight into the many details involved in order to have the best technical and aesthetic standards, in addition to designing a one-doctor practice that would function at optimal efficiency.
He wasn’t just thinking about the here and now, but 10 or 15 years down the line, he said.
His new location met all of those needs, in addition to providing easy access to patients in Carmel, Mahopac, Brewster, and the nearby towns of Somers, North Salem and South Salem.
A fan of the ocean and beaches, Dr. Pai wanted to bring that feel into the treatment room by painting the walls bright colors, placing palm trees and hanging up a surfboard, all contributing to what he called “an overall aura of relaxed simplicity.”
In order to keep any possible nerves calm and create a sense of playful fun, Dr. Pai said that two iPad gaming stations and giant TV with a full range of cable stations allows everyone to stay happily occupied until appointments begin.
Dr. Pai said that by utilizing the latest technology he is able to move teeth into alignment more efficiently, while at the same time providing greater patient comfort and in some cases, reducing the need to extract teeth.
And in the realm of comfort, Dr. Pai said that, unlike other orthodontic offices, he encourages parents to accompany their children into the treatment area and has installed a seating area for parents, siblings and even friends to stay with a patient.
On top of offering what he said are among the most competitive fees in the area, Dr. Pai said his practice offers a zero percent interest payment plan that will allow just about anyone to fit orthodontic treatment into their budget during these tough economic times.
Dr. Pai said that people should remember it is never too late to pursue orthodontic treatment and that two out of every five orthodontic patients are adults. While it is optimal to receive orthodontic treatment during the ages of eight to 12, Dr. Pai said that does not mean that patients of all ages aren’t great candidates.
“I feel the most rewarding part of being an orthodontist is watching the transition a patient makes during treatment. Not only the physical change to having a beautiful new smile, but the greater feeling of esteem and confidence that comes with it,” Dr. Pai said. “The best and most rewarding part of being an orthodontist is making a positive change in how patients feel about themselves.”
