Brewster District Voters OK $38.9 Million Bond Referendum
Despite miserable weather all day, just enough voters came out and voted to approve a $38.9 million bond referendum put forth by the Brewster Central School District Tuesday.
The margin of victory was 110 votes, with 635 voting in the affirmative for the proposition and 525 voting against the bond project meant to make repairs and renovations in hopes of upgrading district facilities into the 21st century.
When it was revealed around 9:15 p.m. that the bond passed, Brewster district officials and Board of Education members on hand were overjoyed.
Board president Dr. Stephen Jambor said in an interview he’s “overwhelmed.”
“These people in Brewster never cease to amaze me,” Jambor said. “The people of Brewster ought to be darn proud of themselves because they take their kids’ schools so seriously.”
Superintendent Tim Conway said the bond referendum offered to residents is something the district has been working on for more than a year.
“To have it passed tonight is just a great feeling,” Conway said. “Really appreciate the support of the community.”
