Book Talk with Roger Jewell at Field Library in Peekskill

Author Roger Jewell

This coming Wednesday, on January 19, at 7 p.m., The Field Library will present the first author visit and book-signing of the new year, a lecture with Roger L. Jewell, author of the recently published book, The Sawmill River Valley War.
Following the characteristic path of classic research, The Sawmill River Valley War started with an investigation of Jewell’s family history and ended up as the foundation for an historical novel.  It tells the story of Dutch tenant farmers on Philipse and Van Cortlandt Manor who were caught between the British lines in New York City and the American lines at Peekskill and Fishkill.
Based upon the actual experiences of 11 men in the Westchester County Militia, Jewell vividly brings to life the numerous local legends from that heroic period.
A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Jewell worked most of his career for the United States Forest Service.
Retired since 1994, he has since written Ancient Mines of Kitchi-Gummi, now in its third printing, and Riding the Wild Orb, an investigation of extreme weather and its causes.
Copies of The Sawmill River Valley War will be available for $15.95, and a book-signing will follow the lecture.
The Field Library is located at 4 Nelson Avenue in Peekskill.  For further information, contact Library Director Sibyl Canaan at 914-737-0010. Visit the library website at www.peekskill.org. Visit the author’s website at www.jewellhistories.com
