Bloom Floral Design, Simple, Elegant and Cost-effective
It’s not spring yet but something beautiful has sprouted in White Plains. Bloom Floral Design opened last week just one store over from Dunkin Donuts by the corner of Martine and Mamaroneck Avenues in the city’s downtown.
The floral arrangements in the window immediately let you know something special awaits you inside and the cuddly stuffed toys surrounded by Valentine’s Day decorations will certainly win many hearts.
Owner Carl Weinberg has another shop in Yonkers called Bed of Roses, which celebrated its ninth anniversary on the opening day of Bloom Floral Design.
Weinberg explained the day is also a family anniversary and has special meaning.
While Weinberg will sell bouquets of cut flowers from $10 up, he calls the White Plains shop a boutique with trendy elegance. Fresh flowers are delivered daily. He plans to focus on a full spectrum of floral services for special events including weddings, birthday parties, receptions, special events and funerals.
Explaining that the operation will provide customized service, Weinberg said he works on only two big events on any given day so he can concentrate on making certain everything falls into place for his customers.
The shop will also create specialized gift baskets with specific items purchased specially for the person receiving the gift. “If someone likes peanut butter and cheese, we will put that in the basket,” Weinberg emphasized.
For customers walking in to purchase something on the spot there are prearranged containers with green plants, assorted gifts and cut flowers that a designer will arrange artfully.
Weinberg is looking to become a Godiva chocolate retailer to enhance his inventory of gift items.
When you walk into the shop there is a seating area with comfortable chairs and a coffee table sporting wedding and special event magazines.
Weinberg likes to meet with his customers in person, usually in an office beyond the showroom.
“Sometimes a bride will come in not really knowing what she wants,” he said. “When I hear what color the bridesmaids dresses are I begin thinking about the different flowers that go with the color and it all begins to come together.”
“This takes some people by surprise,” Weinberg admits. ‘They don’t expect that type of advice from a big man like me.”
But Weinberg does seem to know his way around the flowers. He began working for a florist at the age of 17. “I used to work in a shop and make deliveries,” he remembered. Weinberg then spent several years in the financial and marketing fields. “When the opportunity came up to take over the flower business in Yonkers that became Bed of Roses, I jumped at it,” he said. “I really enjoy working with the flowers.”
Because he knows every bride has a dream and a budget to go with it, Weinberg’s motto is: “We will give you flowers as close to what you want for as close as you want to spend – simple, elegant and cost effective.”
If a bride has her heart set on a particular flower, Weinberg will find a way to get it and make sure it is incorporated into her floral designs at the pricing she can afford.
