Berra Edges Mezzancello in No. Castle; Absentee Ballots to Decide Race
Jose Berra defeated Guy Mezzancello Tuesday night in the special election for a seat on the North Castle Town Board, but the race won’t be officially decided until absentee ballots have been counted.
According to the Westchester County Board of Elections, Berra picked up 1,623 votes to 1,607 for Mezzancello.
However, there are more than 100 absentee ballots that still needed to be counted.
The winner will serve the remaining year of the council seat vacated by Michael Schiliro, who won the race for supervisor last year.
Berra, who finished third in a four-candidate race last November for town board, was appointed in January by the current board to fill that vacancy. He once again received the Democrats’ endorsement.
Mezzancello, a three-year member of the North Castle Planning Board, was formerly a Democrat, who was endorsed by the town Republican Committee.
