A Montrose man who robbed a bank in Peekskill Friday was arrested later in the day after trying to rob a supermarket in Croton.

Joshue Flores, 26, was taken into custody by New York State Police and Croton police officers Friday night following a brief struggle after he was found hiding in a brook in the vicinity of the Super Food Town on Route 9A.

State Police reported Flores had passed a note to a cashier in the supermarket about 8 p.m. threatening the use of a firearm and demanding all the money in the register. Flores fled the scene prior to obtaining any money.

Earlier in the day, at approximately 12:15 p.m., according to Peekskill Police, Flores stole an undisclosed amount of money from the M&T Bank on Park Street in Peekskill.

Peekskill police officers were able to identify Flores after circulating his photograph in the media and canvassing dozens of local businesses. While Peekskill detectives were in Montrose checking for Flores at his residence, State Police informed them they had located Flores.

Detectives interviewed Flores at the Cortlandt barracks and charged him with robbery in the first degree, a Class B felony, and grand larceny in the fourth degree, a Class D felony. State Police also charged Flores with one count of third-degree attempted robbery.

State Police said an investigation revealed Flores was linked to other criminal matters being probed. Peekskill Police Chief Eric Johansen expressed thanks to the other police agencies that assisted in capturing Flores, along with the media and public for being instrumental in identifying Flores.
