Ball Receives Suspicious Package
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious package that was sent to State Senator Greg Ball (R-Pawling) at his office in Southeast on Friday.
The package, received by a receptionist at Senator Ball’s office at 5:35 p.m., was delivered by a reputable commercial delivery service. It consisted of a 12” x 16” envelope which was addressed to the senator and contained a return address from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates by way of Pakistan. The package was unexpected and the sender was unknown to the senator and his staff. Deeming the package suspicious in nature, his office contacted the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
The building was evacuated Friday night, and investigators from the Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation, bomb disposal technicians from Westchester County Police Bomb Squad, New York State Police and the Brewster Fire Department arrived on the scene.
Route 22 and Milltown Road were closed for three hours, with traffic being diverted. After an extensive investigation, the package was determined to be non-threatening with no hazardous materials. Instead, it contained a literary works related to the Prophet Mohammed.
