Ball Ranked, Again, as NY’s Most Independent Republican Senator
Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I –Patterson), Chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee, has been ranked as New York’s most “Independent Republican Senator” by the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG). According to NYPIRG, a student-directed research organization, Ball displayed the most independent voting record of his Republican colleagues in the 2014 legislative session.
“I am honored to be named the most Independent Republican Senator by the NYPIRG report. I think most people are well aware of my tendency to break ranks and shake things up in Albany,” said Ball. “Texas has it right by keeping the legislature part time and out of the Capitol as much as possible, only holding session every other year. Voting ‘No’ in New York is typically a very safe bet.”
The 2014 NYPIRG study shows that the Republican Conference voted with Majority Leader Dean Skelos 98.37% of the time, while Ball was most likely to break ranks with his own party, voting with the Majority leader only 88.14% of the time. The Republican Conference voted with Independent Democratic Conference Leader Jeff Klein 98.15% of the time, while Ball voted with Klein 88.00% of the time.
In 2012 and 2013 Ball was named the New Yorkers most “Independent Senator” by NYPIRG. The New York State Conservative Party also twice named Senator Ball New York’s “Most Conservative” Senator.
