State Sen. Greg Ball (R-Patterson) declared he is not seeking reelection, or any public office in a video announcement sent out Friday morning.

Ball, who has served in the state assembly for three terms and state senate for two terms, said “it is time now to return back to the private sector.”

“We’ve accomplished a lot against great odds,” Ball said in the video. “Albany may not be full of perfect people but it may be full of and it is full of a lot of imperfect people trying to make the world a perfect place.”

Ball also announced he would support Yorktown councilman Terrence Murphy who is running for that state senate seat. He said he is committed to keeping a Republican in that seat.

“Until I made sure that this seat was in good hands, that it would be transitioned to another conservative Republican I couldn’t make my final decision,” Ball said.

There was speculation that Ball would attempt to primary Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell, but he said earlier in the week he decided he wouldn’t.
