Arden to Run for Re-election in No. Castle; Parties to Name Slates Soon
It may be a couple of weeks before North Castle’s political parties announce who will run for town board this fall but Supervisor Howard Arden hasn’t wasted any time getting a jump on his opponent.
Arden plans to run for re-election for the first time in November regardless of whether he is endorsed by the town’s Republican Committee. Arden defeated former supervisor William Weaver in the GOP primary and in the general election two years ago after Weaver was endorsed by the Democrats.
“There’s just a lot of things I want to get done before I leave,” he said.
With pressing zoning issues on the horizon, including projects such as the Brynwood Golf & Country Club condominium and golf course redesign proposal, Arden said there are major issues facing the town that he would like to help resolve.
Incumbent council members Diane DiDonato-Roth and John Cronin, whose terms expire at the end of the year, have not decided whether they would seek re-election. The two Republicans said late last week they would make their decision within the next two weeks about whether to run for a second term.
Republican Committee Chairwoman Anita Cozza said she expects the party to announce its slate for supervisor, two town board seats, town justice and receiver of taxes before May 30. Cozza said that is the night the county Republican Committee meets and she would like to have North Castle’s nominees in place by then. The town committee is expected to meet again sometime next week, she said.
Arden interviewed with the committee as did Doug Martino, a potential candidate for town justice, Cozza said.
Meanwhile, the town’s Democrats have already endorsed Linda Trummer-Napolitano for town justice but have yet to commit to candidates for any of the other seats. Democratic Committee Co-chairman Barry Malvin said he expects the party to announce its ticket sometime next month.
