Annual Yorktown Grange Fair to Celebrate Hometown Pride
The 88th annual Yorktown Grange Fair is set to entertain visitors of all ages for four days this week with rides, games, food, live music, shows and farm animals.
Billed as Westchester’s only true agricultural fair, the theme of this year’s Grange Fair is “Hometown Pride Shared Countywide.” The fair was once held where the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center now stands but has been a mainstay on grounds off Moseman Road since 1954. It is run by a non-profit, volunteer organization.
The Grange Fair kicks off Thursday at 6 p.m. with admission $2 for all ages. The fair is open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday with admission $9 for adults and $4 for seniors and children under 12. On Sunday, the fair is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. No credit cards are accepted but an ATM is located on the fairgrounds.
Some of the highlights of the fair include a livestock exhibition, audience participation games, such as pie and watermelon eating and nail driving, and an array of flower, produce, baking, photo, needlework and Lego contests under the tents.
There will also be an emphasis this year on local talent with regional favorites The Sundown Band, Annie and the Natural Wonder Band, Mojo Monde and Chain of Fools, plus the best of First Friday performers from the Yorktown Teen Center and Unfunded Mandate, a band comprising Lakeland school administrators and staff.
