Annual Pro-Am Ensemble Concert to be Held in Peekskill
Local student musicians will get an opportunity to play with a group of seasoned professionals at the 2011 Pro-Am Ensemble concert that will be held on Wed., August 24 at 7 p.m. on N. Division St. in Peekskill. The students have been working with their mentors in workshops and will perform for the public in a free open-air concert.
“This is a great collaboration of talented and committed participants,” said Cross-Cultural Connection Director Ray Blue whose 501-c3 organization promotes jazz culture, education and performance in schools, colleges and communities.
Blue, a professional saxophone player, was also one of the musicians who took the time to teach at the clinics for the Peekskill youth. Fellow clinicians Sharp Radway, a pianist, Tony Jefferson, a drummer, Cameron Brown and Mike Goetz, a bass players, Wayne Cobham, a trumpet player and Alan Goidel a trombone player will jam out with the students to tunes arranged by Vince Corozine, a saxophonist who was also a clinician.
This year’s student performers will be Danny Rivera, Satish Robinson, and Sean McQuade on trumpet, John Winter, Steven Salcedo and Alex Crean on sax, Emanual Henry and J.R. George on drums and Marcus Franklin will tap dance.
The concert is an annual event in Peekskill which is sponsored by local businesses and organizations as well as Arts Westchester.
The Pro-Am Ensemble is an international program that has been in operation since 2002. It has been presented in South Africa, Xambia, Tanzania, Gabon, China, Finland, and Germany as well as across the United States.
