Andrew Mattei of Fort Myers, Florida died May 29, 2024, in White Plains after a valiant two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 66.
He was born November 15, 1957, in Brooklyn, to Mario Mattei and Alice McHugh. He spent his childhood in Staten Island growing up alongside his four brothers and graduated from Monsignor Farrell High School in 1975. He completed his undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Science) from the State University of New York at Cortlandt in 1979 and went on to Fordham University School of Law earning his J.D. in 1987.
In 1988, he met and fell in love with Frances Mauriello. They were married in 1993, had two beautiful daughters and relocated from Staten Island to Pleasantville, to raise their children.
Andrew had an illustrative career representing domestic and international commercial and investment banks. He began his career at Mayer Brown & Platt, LLP, making partner in 1995 and spent nearly 20 years with the firm. Beginning in 2007, he spent two years as a partner with Allen & Overy. In 2009, he joined Orrick, Herrington & Suttcliffe LLP as a Global Finance Partner where he spent the remainder of his career, retiring in 2022, but staying on the team as Senior Counsel until he fell ill.
Despite great professional accomplishments, he was most proud of his family and enjoyed spending time in the comfort of his home. He was an avid reader and did enjoy a good cigar. In recent years, he became quite the coin collector and was well known to the local bank tellers (in both Pleasantville and Fort Myers) as he would trade in coins to analyze regularly. This newer hobby was one that he enthusiastically shared and even had friendly competition with his brothers. He was a founding member and President of Spare Change Inc.
Andrew was very generous by nature. He enjoyed traveling with his family, playing golf now and again, an occasional car ride in his 1983 Mercedes convertible and was a dog lover (taking great care of his dogs Diablo, Duke and Coco over the years). Andrew was witty with a dry sense of humor and loved to poke fun and joke around. He was easygoing, kept those he loved close, enjoyed great mashed potatoes, and watching the sunset with his wife on their dock. He will be missed beyond measure.
In addition to his wife, Frances of Fort Myers, FL, Andrew is survived by his two daughters Gabrielle and Nicole, both of NYC and four siblings – Mario (Grace), Patrick (Marilyn), Jimmy and Stephen (Mia) all of Staten Island, NY as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Andrew was predeceased by his parents.
