A Fresh Start
Last week was a very busy but fruitful one for me. On Thursday I had dinner at the Flying Pig on Lexington in Mt. Kisco. Since they are not participating in Hudson Valley Restaurant Week, it was pretty quiet. The food, wine, and atmosphere were good, as well as the service. Tomorrow there will be a “tweet-up” at the Pig which should prove to be a great time.
Saturday night I attended the Lakeland Education Foundation’s 17th annual dinner and casino night at Villa Barone in Mahopac. The decor is fabulous, staff very friendly and helpful, but unfortunately the food was the low point of the evening. I had chicken francese but the seasoning must have been left in the kitchen. It was surprising because the roasted potato and vegetables that accompanied it were well cooked and tasty. I don’t judge a place by one dish, so I plan to visit again with an open mind.
On Friday I was able to begin cooking and packaging in my commercial kitchen, formerly Jennifer’s Kitchen and Catering in Mt. Kisco. I sell freshly made meals using locally sourced ingredients at the farmers’ market on Saturdays from 9-1. The market is held in the gym of the Boys and Girls Club at 351 Main Street in Mt. Kisco. I make mostly vegetarian meals, many also gluten free, to take home and reheat. Stop by the market this Saturday as I will also be doing a cooking demonstration and giving free samples. As always there is free coffee, plenty of parking, and lots of friendly people. So come by, say hello, and leave with great, healthy food and fresh recipes.
