Maybury Releases 2012 Mount Pleasant Budget
Mount Pleasant Supervisor Joan Maybury is proposing a $23,976,982 2012 budget that would reduce property taxes for town residents and raise them slightly for property owners in the three villages of Mount Pleasant.
Under the spending plan, which was released this week, Maybury is seeking to cut spending by $140,764 compared to the current year and raise taxes overall by 1.88 percent.
Property taxes would decrease by 2.57 percent in town and increase by 7.4 percent in the villages of Pleasantville, Briarcliff Manor and Sleepy Hollow. Taxes on the average home in town would fall by $28 under next year’s proposed budget, but rise by $5 on the average home in the villages, town Comptroller Tina Peretti said.
Though spending would be cut under her budget, it does not include layoffs and no programs would be either added or eliminated.
The 2011 general fund budget is $24.1 million. The town board eliminated six positions in July and there have been a total of 15 positions eliminated in 2010 and 2011.
“The main factors driving our budget at this time are the continued decrease in revenue and the continued increase in health care and pension costs,” Maybury said last week.
The town board is scheduled to adopt the preliminary budget on Nov. 7. Public hearings on the budget are slated for Nov. 22 and Dec. 13, the night when the board will approve the final version of next year’s spending plan.
